It takes approx 15 to 25 minutes to heat a cup of water and for it to evaporate (used for 1-4 cups). For 5 to 10 cups of rice you add more and it will take between 25-45 mins.
This is used if you want to keep your food warm. It will stay warm up to 3 hours. To turn on the main unit to just cook you just depress the big down cook switch.
After cooking, it is normal to have minor residue left on the surface of the cooker.
a. Fill the water to 2/3 of outer pot, add 30g Citric Acid or few slices of lemon or lime.
b. Let it cook till the water is boiling (about 40 minutes). Keep the water in boiling state for few minutes.
c. Turn off the cooker and unplug the power cable.
d. Let it sit for 1 hour, dispose the water and use a soft wet cloth to clean the inside
*DO NOT use baking soda to clean the cooker
*The cooker will be hot so please be careful when cleaning.
You can also put water inside the cooker to soak the overflowed ingredients and wipe.
The residue is caused from minerals and organic compounds from water and when it interacts with heat, oxygen, or carbon dioxide it undergoes a chemical change resulting in residue. The occurs when water is boiled over 60 degrees C.
You should dry your cooker with a cloth to prevent stains
Do not use use abrasive cleaners or wire brushes or steel. Use paper towels or soft cloths to wipe.
Tatung multifunctional cooker works like a double boiler and produces steam by heating water to cook the food. When steam is generated the cooker will move and the steam pushes the lid of the pot to make a sound when it collides with the outer pot. When the cooking stops, the mechanism will "jump off"" and when the metal cools it will make a sound and is normal.
The evaporation of protective oil of internal parts of the cooker will smoke away after several uses and is normal.
The aluminum of the coloured units on the outer side may turn black due to the water quality. Please wipe with a clean wet cloth and keep it dry.
Tatung products sold here are rated for New Zealand power and have a 3 point plug, no adaptors or transformers needed.
Only Gold/Champagne, Green, White and Crystal Black are available in NZ. Stainless steel is of course stainless steel and not coloured per se. There are no other colours or sizes available in NZ as the models have to undergo strict testing in order to be brought into the NZ and Australian market. I have all the possible sizes and colours and accessories that are available in NZ.

There are two service agents in Auckland/NZ. Contact me before hand. The main trouble shoot is to check the outer bowl is clean as well as the inner bowl bottom. A build up of food/sauces will interfere with the heating of the units.
Shipping/Courier can be found after you have entered your billing/shipping address - Shipping Method. The default is Pick up by Appointment (1-7 days). If you click on the arrow there are 25 options of shipping and depends on the zone (see below or the About & Contact page) and if you have ordered the unit by itself or unit and steamer. If you just want an accessory please email me at info@ricemi.nz. If you have ordered a shallow bowl or an additional bowl, I will take photos of me opening the unopened box and then place the shallow bowl inside. You will save on shipping/courier costs. I have yet to have someone order both so I am not sure if the box will close with 2 accessories in there but definitely one addition allows me to close the box still.

The measuring cup for the outer part is approximately 22 ml per line; so for 2 cups you can put 45 ml etc. You don't have to be exact. Most of the time I just do about half a cup on the outside for 4 cups of washed rice and add more water if I need longer.
The measuring cup that comes with the Tatung Unit is 3/4 of a normal cup. So when they say 6 cups, they mean 4.5 cups of metric cups; and for the 10/11 cups it is approx 7.5-8 metric cups
The diameter of the 6 cup is 21 cm inside and 24 cm outside (handles included is 31 cm wide)
The diameter of the 10 cup is 25 cm inside and 28 cm outside (handles included is 35 cm wide)
For the inner bowls 6 cup is about 20.5 cm in diameter at the top and 18 cm at the bottom with a height of 10.2 cm
For the inner bowls 10 cup is about 24.5 cm in diameter at the top and 20 cm at the bottom with a height of 12.3 cm
The unit works by heating up the water and steams the food. At the beginning there will be little sound or movement of the lid. As the water boils the lid will move side to side or up and down. If you don't like the sound of the movement you can put a toothpick between the lid and outerpart.
Make sure you take the pick out before you open the lid.
Please watch the action of these 2 Tatungs going at once.
Stainless Steel models are completely stainless steel inside and out
