It takes approx 15 to 25 minutes to heat a cup of water and for it to evaporate (used for 1-4 cups).  For 5 to 10 cups of rice you add more and it will take between 25-45 mins.

The pre-2026 coloured models you could cook and steam at the same time. You can not do this now because the units are not as deep.

If you want to steam using the TAC-S02 and cook at the same time you can purchase the inner 6 cup because it is shorter; or you can purchase the TAC-S11 and use the extension piece of the TAC-S11 without the plate and use the inner bowl, (and shallow bowl), and TAC-S02.

With the TAC-S11 you can cook and steam at the same time and use the shallow bowl if you want to.

There is no extension for the 6 cup.  You have to use the TAC-S03 and either cook or steam.

This is used if you want to keep your food warm.  It will stay warm up to 3 hours.  To turn on the main unit to just cook you just depress the big down cook switch.

After cooking, it is normal to have minor residue left on the surface of the cooker.

IN THE OLDER PRE 2026 MODELS

a. Fill the water to 2/3 of outer pot, add 30g Citric Acid or few slices of lemon or lime.

b. Let it cook till the water is boiling (about 40 minutes). Keep the water in boiling state for few minutes.

c. Turn off the cooker and unplug the power cable.

d. Let it sit for 1 hour, dispose the water and use a soft wet cloth to clean the inside

*DO NOT use baking soda to clean the cooker

*The cooker will be hot so please be careful when cleaning.

You can also put water inside the cooker to soak the overflowed ingredients and wipe.

The residue is caused from minerals and organic compounds from water and when it interacts with heat, oxygen, or carbon dioxide it undergoes a chemical change resulting in residue.  The occurs when water is boiled over 60 degrees C.

You should dry your cooker with a cloth to prevent stains

Do not use use abrasive cleaners or wire brushes or steel.  Use paper towels or soft cloths to wipe.

POST 2026 MODELS

a. Soak your outer bowl with water like you would do any pot, let it soak and tip out the water (don't get the cord wet).

b. Wipe the surface of the outer bowl

Tatung multifunctional cooker works like a double boiler and produces steam by heating water to cook the food.  When steam is generated the cooker will move and the steam pushes the lid of the pot to make a sound when it collides with the outer pot.  When the cooking stops, the mechanism will "jump off"" and when the metal cools it will make a sound and is normal.  It only makes sounds when the water has reached bowling and it is not a quiet cook for a few minutes then it will stop once the water has evaporated off.

The evaporation of protective oil of internal parts of the cooker will smoke away after several uses and is normal.

The aluminum of the coloured units on the outer side may turn black due to the water quality.  Please wipe with a clean wet cloth and keep it dry.

Tatung products sold here are rated for New Zealand power and have a 3 point plug, no adaptors or transformers needed.

Only Gold/Champagne, Green, White and Crystal Black are available in NZ.  Stainless steel is of course stainless steel and not coloured per se.  There are no other colours or sizes available in NZ as the models have to undergo strict testing in order to be brought into the NZ and Australian market.  I have all the possible sizes and colours and accessories that are available in NZ.

Units are made in Taiwan and come with a standard one year manufacturer warranty.  Accessories are considered consumbles by the manufacturer and do not have a warranty.

There are two service agents in Auckland/NZ.  Contact me before hand.  The main trouble shoot is to check the outer bowl is clean as well as the inner bowl bottom.  A build up of food/sauces will interfere with the heating of the units.

The measuring cup for the outer part is approximately 22 ml per line; so for 2 cups you can put 45 ml etc.  You don't have to be exact.  Most of the time I just do about half a cup on the outside for 4 cups of washed rice and add more water if I need longer.

The measuring cup that comes with the Tatung Unit is 3/4 of a normal cup.  So when they say 6 cups, they mean 4.5 cups of metric cups; and for the 11 cups it is approx 7.5-8 metric cups

The diameter of the 6 cup is 21 cm inside and 24 cm outside (handles included is 31 cm wide)

The diameter of the 11 cup is 25 cm inside and 28 cm outside (handles included is 35 cm wide)

For the inner bowls 6 cup is about 20.5 cm in diameter at the top and 18 cm at the bottom with a height of 10.2 cm

For the inner bowls 11 cup is about 24.5 cm in diameter at the top and 20 cm at the bottom with a height of 12.3 cm

The unit works by heating up the water and steams the food.  At the beginning there will be little sound or movement of the lid.  As the water boils the lid will move side to side or up and down.  If you don't like the sound of the movement you can put a toothpick between the lid and outerpart.

Make sure you take the pick out before you open the lid.

Please watch the action of these 2 Tatungs going at once.

Stainless Steel models are completely stainless steel inside and out

1) Stainless Steel models are completely stainless steel inside and out.

2) The coloured models have the same inner cooking bowls and accessories but the outer heating part is not stainless, it's an aluminium alloy. The food is cooked inside the Stainless steel pots and not in the aluminium alloy outer pot.

3) Tatung states that: during the manufacturing process of aluminum pots, a process called "anodic treatment" is performed.  Its purpose is to artificially produce a thick and solid aluminum oxide film on the surface of the aluminum material.  This film protects the inner surface of the aluminum pot.  The hardness of the aluminum layer is approx 20 times that of untreated pure aluminum, exceeding that of ordinary steel and even rivals that of diamonds.  It's chemical properties are stable and has good corrosion resistance.  Daily cooking conditions do not destroy it, the cooking process makes it more durable as the boiling water or steam has a "pore-sealing" effect which can transform the film into a finer, tighter, more protective one.
